Community Resources - Community Help

  • Mental Health Counseling Services at FHS -   Sinnissippi Centers, Inc. has partnered with the River Bend School District to offer behavioral health services on-site at each school. This service eliminates the need to miss work or transportation to a Sinnissippi office for counseling. Parents and students may make a request for this counseling service. Please contact your school counselor for more information.
 
  • Area Therapists and Counselors  - This is a list of area Therapists and Counselors for students seeking support and help dealing with social and emotional issues.
 
  • Whiteside County Resource Book - Tri-County's Agency Resource Book is filled with information to assist individuals with adult education, employment services, basic needs, child care services, dental health, disability services, emergency services, food pantries, legal services, mental health services, physical health, recreation services and other resources within our nine counties. (Revised 2/2021).
 
  • United Way 211- When there is a crisis or emergency, where do you turn? If it's a life-threatening emergency, you call 911. But what if you can't pay your electric bill? Or you need childcare? Or legal help? Now, you can call 211. United Way has partnered with area organizations and companies who offer free or discounted social services to provide you a fast, easy way to get the specific help you need, as quickly as possible. It is free to use, fast, comprehensive, confidential, and nationwide. You can call 211 or 1-888-865-9903 to talk to a real person who will connect you with real answers. You can also text 898 211, or visit the 211 website at: www.findhelp211.org. 
 
  • NAMI Family Support Groups provide a place where family members, friends and significant others caring for a loved one living with a mental health condition can find compassion, learn new ways to manage problems and access resources. The local NAMI meetings are in Sterling every 4th Tuesday of the month. These meetings are free and confidential. 
 
  • Safe2HelpSafe2Help Illinois is a 24/7 program where students/parents can use a free app, text/phone, website (Safe2HelpIllinois.com) to share information that might help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence or other threats to school safety in a confidential environment. The information provided will immediately be shared with local school officials, mental health professionals and/or local law enforcement, depending on the nature of the tip. This program is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish students. Rather, the goal is to connect students with mental health resources or other appropriate resources that will intervene and help students before they harm themselves or others.
 
  • Love is Respect. Healthy Relationships for young adults. Love is more than just the way you feel. Love is Respect. Have questions about your relationship, or not sure what a relationship is? Love is confusing. We're here to help.
 
  • Mental Health Conditions are all around us and among us. By knowing more about them, we can encourage each other to speak up and build better lives.
 
  • A Guide to Getting Through Grief is a pamphlet that provides information on how to help yourself deal with the loss of a loved one. It also gives suggestions on how to help others who are grieving.
 
  • Parents as Teachers First Years is a parent education and family support program that provides free services for families in Whiteside, Lee and Ogle Counties, including expectant parents and families with children from birth to age three.

  • The Jason Foundation  - The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) is dedicated to the prevention of the “Silent Epidemic” of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs that equip young people, educator’s/youth workers and parents with the tools and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth. 
    • Students: You are in age group that youth suicide directly affects. It is important to know what you can do for you classmates, teammates, and friends. You can start by downloading the FREE smartphone app, “A Friend asks”. Learn More.
    • Parents: You can educate yourself about the magnitude of the problem, encourage local organizations to be more involved, and more. Learn More.
 
  • Victim & Survivor Resources  - Victims of teen dating violence often keep the abuse a secret. They should be encouraged to reach out to trusted adults like parents, teachers, school counselors, youth advisors, or health care providers. They can also seek confidential counsel and advice from professionally trained adults and peers. This website contains a list of hotline numbers, prevention programs, and public awareness programs plus federal and  local resources and how to secure them.
 
  • Resources for children of Divorce and SeparationDivorce is an experience that is very common in households across the U.S. One of the most unfortunate consequences of divorce is the splitting up of families, which directly impacts children. This is a difficult experience for kids, but exactly how difficult it is typically depends on the child, their age, and the circumstances of the divorce. Typically, the initial responses are feelings of frustration, sadness, and anger. For some kids, there may also be feelings of guilt. Fortunately, when the situation is handled properly, many children are able to adjust to their new circumstances over time.
