Ms. Gates

This course is a survey of fundamentals of chemistry and physics. It is designed for the student that does not have plans to enroll in a full year of chemistry or physics. Students will demonstrate an ability to safely use scientific lab equipment and apply the scientific method to solve problems. The first semester focuses on the study of chemistry, emphasizing the classification of matter, description of atomic structure, use of the periodic table, comparison of chemical bonds, and understanding of chemical reaction. Second semester focuses on the study of energy as it relates to physics. Students will be required to demonstrate an ability to accurately predict the outcomes of experimental procedures involving the laws of motion, heat, light, sound, and electromagnetic energy.
