COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Fulton High School Band and Robed Choir are mainly performance based classes. Band and Robed Choir is open to any student at FHS but the director has the authority to remove a student from the group or refuse entry because of behavior / attitude issues. Once a student is a part of Band or Robed Choir, he/ she is expected to complete the school year. The student must maintain a passing grade, uphold rules of the classroom, complete all assignments, and attend all performances.

GOALS
The goals of the FHS Band and Robed Choir are as follows:
1. To provide a learning experience in instrumental and choral music.
2. To provide various opportunities in performing instrumental and vocal music.
3. To represent FHS as an accomplished performing group.

CLASSROOM RULES

11. No gum, food or drink (other than water) will be allowed in class

GRADING
Students must earn a passing grade in band and choir. The grade will raise or lower according to the following standards:
1. Performance and Rehearsal Attendance
2. Musical Effort and Improvement
3. Behavior
4. Worksheets and Quizzes
5. Semester Exams

The success and musical advancement of the FHS Band and Robed Choir depends on the attendance and effort of each individual member. Any student behavior detracting from a productive rehearsal or quality performance will result in a lowering of the grade in addition to receiving a detention according to the FHS Student Handbook.

An unexcused absence from a performance will result in a lowering of one letter grade. Requests from parents for an excused absence must be received by the director prior to the date of the performance. Excuses received after a performance will not be considered and will result in an unexcused absence. Excused absences provide only for family emergencies and student illness. All requests will be reviewed by the director and the principal.

Band & Robed Choir: Leadership Job Descriptions

President: Must have strong leadership qualities
Responsibilities include:
Assist the Director in promotion and organization of Band / Choir activities
Participate in monthly officer meetings
Serve as liaison between the students and the Director
Represent the band /choir by membership on the Music Booster Board
Oversee and organize band / choir assistants and crews
Motivate fellow officers to take an active leadership role in the band / choir
Motivate and lead the band / choir by both words and by example

Vice President: Acts in a dual capacity as Treasurer for the band / choir
Responsibilities include:
Arrange for pictures and articles to go to local newspapers on a monthly basis
Collaborate with Secretary to research, organize, and update department website
Assists in the collection and organization of money for band / choir activities
Assists in the organization and execution of fund raising activities
Research and disseminate information about the costs of above activities
Assist President and other officers in addition to regular duties
Participate in monthly officer meetings

Secretary: This position requires extreme diligence and organizational skills
Responsibilities include:
Taking attendance on a daily basis and must know everyone’s name, voice part, and assigned seat
Monitor band / choir rehearsal attendance by frequently reviewing attendance book and recording the total number of absences for each student
Enter sectional attendance into grade book
Take attendance at concerts
Collaborate with Vice President to research, organize, and update department website
Update band / choir database
Participate in monthly officer meetings

Librarians: This position requires organizational skills
Responsibilities include:
Organization, distribution, collecting, and filing of all band / choral music
Keeping chorus folder cabinet neat and organized
Be sure each student has music
Organizing the band / choral library
Participate in monthly officer meetings

Activities Committee: This position requires a creative person
Responsibilities include:
Plan and organize social activities for the band / chorus throughout the course of the school year

Logistics Team: Includes all students who do not have a leadership position
Responsibilities include:
In charge of risers and equipment, movement and organization of people, set up and tear down for activities, and other tasks that may be required for technical operations
