Family Photo November 2010

I teach three sections of 7th grade math and two sections of 8th grade pre-algebra.  I love being able to teach math!  I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed math until I started teaching.  As a student I did fine in math, but generally I did the problems “the way that my teacher told me to”  and I didn’t always understand why the method worked.  One of my goals as a teacher is to have my students understand “why” the math works.  I believe that there is a stronger connection to the process of solving problems.  A second goal of mine is by the end of the school year to get the ”math haters” to atleast be able to tolerate (or even enjoy) math!  I have been teaching in River Bend since 1995 and over the years I hope to have influenced students to understand mathematics and find that is amazing how math is everywhere in our lives.

My family lives out in the country in Albany.  Cinder, a newfoundland, has grown a lot since this photo.  She is 105 pounds of lovable fur, who has found a place in all of our hearts.  Clare enjoys using her as a pillow.  As a family,  we like to go on bike rides; it will be nice when the bike riding weather returns.  As much as I enjoy skiing on the RBMS ski trips, Clare and Caroline did not find it fun at all.   Therefore, our outdoor winter activities are limited, but they stay busy with dance class.  The dance recital will be here soon, and then summertime baseball with start up!
