FIRST Tech Challenge
Three students from RBMS and one from FHS: Michael Apostolos, Clayton Howard, Grant Jacobs and Nathan Portz, combined to make two teams, Red Team # 11177 & Black Team # 11178. They represented our schools in a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) qualifying meet in Batavia, IL.
It was an extraordinary day of learning for both teams, presenting information about their robots, which started out as ideas and transformed into two separate, lean, mean, ball capturing and launching machines. While the teams may not have finished as high as they liked, finishing 12th and 32nd out of 33 teams, the teams gained a lot of valuable experience to use and share in upcoming years. Both teams’ cooperation and involvement throughout this season was stellar as young, developing engineers.
Congratulations to both teams on your accomplishments- you represented River Bend’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math departments very well. Your coaches / mentors, Ms. Gates, Mr. Long and Dan Portz, as well as all the staff at River Bend, look forward to next year already.
