What it means to be a Steamer
Congrats again on a fine season. I wanted to share a quick note with you that I hope you will enjoy.
As I was walking off the field with 3 of my assistants, 3 of your players were still sitting on your sideline. We were nearly to the gate to exit the field, when they hollered at us and came running over. They shook our hands, hugged us, congratulated us, and wished us the best of luck moving forward, all while fighting back tears of emotion. We did not approach them or anything like that, they ran after us to catch us as we were leaving the field. It was a very classy gesture by the 3 young men.
We shook each of their hands, told them we thought very highly of them as individuals and teammates and leaders to do such a thing. #34 and #5 were two of them for sure, and I believe the other was #54.
I wanted to congratulate you on a fine season once again, and share a kind word about your kids. The place was nearly empty at the time, and I didn’t want such a great demonstration of sportsmanship to go unnoticed. For them to do such a thing demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and is surely a representation of the program you have in place and your leadership of that program. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might like to hear it.
